Downtown Kent was the showcase for a majestic Robinson Memorial Hospital Jewel of Portage County Gala which took place on October 12 in several different downtown venues.
The evening began with a patron and sponsor party at 5 p.m. at Laziza and continued with a cocktail party at the Kent State University Hotel and Conference Center at 6 p.m. Guests then enjoyed dinner in a Gala tent on Erie Street. The tent was fully adorned with exquisite decorations, including chandeliers, floral arrangements, and blue backlighting. Late night at the Gala followed, at 9 p.m., with music, desserts and drinks at all three venues.
In addition, Golden Grandeur sponsor Ron Burbick announced that guests could visit the soon-to-be-open Secret Cellar Jazz Club and Wine Bar in the bottom floor of Acorn Corner Hotel for a sneak preview.
The hospital fundraiser was moved to Kent to highlight the collaboration in Portage County amongst the hospital, the City of Kent, Kent State University and the newly re-developed Kent downtown businesses. More than 350 people attended the Gala, the highest attendance ever for the event. Sponsorship support was also at a record level. The proceeds from the 2013 Gala will be used to support Community Health Programs and Services.
Dan Smith, Economic Development Director of the City of Kent, was honored, for all of his hard work in helping to bring new business development to Kent. Stephen Colecchi, President and CEO of Robinson Memorial Hospital, presented Dan with a black squirrel stuffed animal appropriately dressed with a Robinson Memorial Hospital vest.
“We are very pleased with the support of all the individuals, businesses, and organizations throughout Northeast Ohio who attended the Gala and supported the event in so many ways,” said Deborah Solan, Executive Director of the Robinson Memorial Hospital Foundation.
“The gala was a win-win-win situation for all involved.” Solan said. “Everyone in Portage County is grateful to Ron Burbick and The Burbick Companies for all that he has done to transform Kent and to help make this evening a success.”
