Ravenna, Ohio (October 3, 2011) - More than 300 people from Portage County and Northeast Ohio enjoyed the Robinson Memorial Hospital Jewel of Portage County Gala held October 1 at the Bertram Inn and Conference Center in Aurora. The gala raised more than $118,000 in support of patient programs and services at Robinson Memorial Hospital.
Since the inception of The Jewel of Portage County Gala in 2006, the event has netted more than $100,000 annually with net proceeds of more than $725,000 for a variety of patient program and services at Robinson Memorial Hospital.

Gala guests had the opportunity to bid on 35 silent auction items, including vacation getaways, specialty baskets and services offered by individuals and businesses. The gala also featured a live auction with fantastic items including a gourmet dinner by Dr. Roger Tsai, which raised $8,000; two Art and Science of Putting Clinics, donated by Herb Page and the Kent State University Golf Training & Learning Center, which raised $3,000; an exclusive behind-the-scenes tour of the Columbus Zoo and Aquarium, the nation’s #1 rated zoo in the country, which raised $1,500; a Reunion Resort Orlando experience, donated by Triangle Pharmacy, which raised $2,300, and many other wonderful items and experiences.
In addition, several of Jack Hanna’s promotional animals including a baby lynx, spotted leopard, pink flamingo, and a penguin were at the gala reception for guests to enjoy, thanks to the efforts of Patrick McCafferty, formerly of Kent, Director of Facilities at the Columbus Zoo.
Guests also had the opportunity to purchase raffle tickets for an exquisite Ladies White Gold 18 Karat Love Knot Necklace with round sapphires and diamonds donated by Sydmor’s Jewelers of Ravenna. Andrea Colecchi, of Kent, won the raffle prize.

Proceeds from the Robinson Memorial Hospital Jewel of Portage County 2011 Gala are going to support the Red Woodling Benevolent Care Fund, the Maxine Lyman Mammography and Diabetes Funds, and the Cardiac Pulmonary Rehabilitation Fund. “Thousands of individuals have received assistance and have led healthier lives as the result of Robinson Memorial Hospital Foundation funds for important programs and services,” said Deborah Solan, executive director of the Foundation. “Support of the Robinson Jewel of Portage County Gala ensures that funds will be available in the future to meet the needs of residents in our community.”
