Robinson Memorial Hospital Foundation presents Employee Distinguished Service Awards
Fouts-Tomala and Hughes recognized for contributions in community health
Ravenna, Ohio, Dec. 9, 2009 – It’s about giving time, talents and treasures to support community health for two individuals who were recently presented with the Robinson Memorial Hospital Foundation Employee Distinguished Service Award. Cathy Fouts-Tomala, RT M, mammography quality control technologist, and Suzanne Hughes, MSN, RN, director, Patient and Community Education and Research, were both recently recognized for their ongoing involvement in the foundation’s support of patient care and community programs.
Fouts-Tomala is a resident of Suffield and has been employed at Robinson Memorial Hospital since 1984. She is a graduate of The University of Akron – St. Thomas Hospital School of Radiology. She is a registered mammographer with The American Registry of Radiologic Technologists and a member of the Northern Ohio Society of Mammographers. Fouts-Tomala has volunteered with the Robinson Memorial Hospital Foundation “A Different Kind of Golf Outing” for many years, organizing and overseeing the golfer registration.
“Cathy is the first person most of our golfers see at our golf outing, and she does a fabulous job keeping the registration process running smoothly and efficiently,” said Deborah Solan, executive director, Robinson Memorial Hospital Foundation. “With approximately 200 golfers at our annual event, her efforts and welcoming smile set the tone for the rest of the day.”
Fouts-Tomala was also thanked for being instrumental in facilitating the Maxine Lyman Mammography Fund, which supports women who cannot otherwise afford mammograms. She was also recognized for assisting with mammography education booths at special events, overseeing the hospital’s yearly state mammography inspection, and providing excellent service to patients, their families, staff and physicians. Fouts-Tomala has also been a strong supporter of the foundation for many years.
Hughes, a Hudson resident, has been employed at Robinson Memorial Hospital since 2007. Prior to joining the hospital, Hughes held various positions in the field of cardiology and community outreach, including leading the Women’s Heart Health Program at Akron General Medical Center and working as a nurse clinician in the section of Preventive Cardiology and Rehabilitation at Cleveland Clinic Foundation. She earned a bachelor of science in nursing from The University of Akron and a master of science in nursing from Kent State University. Hughes has served as president of the Akron Metro chapter of the American Heart Association and is active in numerous national professional organizations. She is widely published and has received numerous awards for her work.
“Suzy is a frequent presenter to both community and professional groups on the topic of women’s heart health,” Solan said. “She is currently assisting the foundation with a variety of programs and services that directly benefit patient care and community outreach. She is a creative, hard-working and a genuinely sincere individual who makes the needs of our patients and community members her first priority.”
